blogging while on the job can be perilous

beware the perils of blogging about your work when you get a job - even at a newspaper, yes. A CSM story here has more on that.. it's truly appalling - whatever happened to first amendment rights?

It's a little naive to think that your employers don't have control over what you say about them.

Granted, as journalists, it feels a bit weird to be told what not to write, but companies have monitored what their employees write at work or about work for years. It makes sense that newspaper organizations will do the same. If you are a journalist, you maintain the integrity of the organization you work for.

And not only that - so, ok you have your FA rights. You employer, whomever they are, also has rights, that is the rights to fire your ass based on your contractual obligations.

Point is, just becuase you have a right to get online and reveal the sexual antics of your co-workers, I do not believe that such speech would be covered by any, um, whistle-blower protection.

So really - this has nothing whatsover to do with the FA.
